From feeling shut down to feeling creative
Feb 29, 2024As a kid, I loved to create and play. It felt easy to relax, dive into Saturday morning cartoons, and then head out to explore the nature surrounding me. Numerous trees, a river in my backyard, and paths to explore.
Yet, I didn't love school, which is ironic because I love to learn. I felt contained and primarily anxious, and being a big daydreamer didn't help.
Maybe I was bored.
Or perhaps I had a dysregulated nervous system, making it difficult to focus.
Maybe both.
Away from school, I was a lively kid who loved to explore and use my imagination to dream big.
Creating was fun and easy for me, and back then, I lived mainly in a natural flow of creativity without overthinking things, especially when doing what I loved.
As you grow older, life gets more interesting.
And tapping into creativity becomes more accessible than at other times.
During stressful moments, I felt shut down from being overwhelmed by overdoing, and it wasn't easy to focus, and creativity felt like a distant friend.
Yet, sometimes creativity can be your medicine if you lean into it.
During the first few months of losing my late husband Jacques to suicide, expressing myself through my writing became my new art, my medicine, and a form of therapy.
Getting raw and truthful with my feelings was a gateway to my healing.
Surprisingly enough, it allowed me to return to my flow.
There is power in expressing your emotions. It's a release, allowing the energy to move instead of being stuck.
It's a pathway to aligning with your soul and meeting yourself with grace and love.
When you release the valve of raw emotions, it's an opportunity to perhaps feel your shit on a level you've never done before.
A considerable amount of people have wounds that are buried and walk around not understanding why they are always triggered.
When you tend to your core wound, you can flip the script and experience life more peacefully.
Uncovering and meeting our core wound and healing also returns us to a natural flow of creativity.
Return to your flow.
Return to your art.
